Well, here’s our garden.

Not all of it, though. If I’d moved the camera up a bit you’d be able to see the strawberry bed that Beautiful moved up beside the driveway. Our real garden already has onions and garlic coming up, not to mention last year’s carrots (we’ll see how that works). Today after work I’ll borrow Kelly’s truck and go get a load of manure, and in the morning I’ll get two more loads and pick up the Monster Rototiller from the rental place. Most of that goes to the garden. A little manure will go on the flower beds to help things out. Then Beautiful will plant her peas, I’ll stretch fabric over the hoops on the raised beds to keep them warm, and if I remember, I’ll post a picture of the improvement for Monday’s post.

Meanwhile, this is what we have ready to plant. Tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, peppers, cukes, herbs, I don’t know what all. You can see a lot of it has gotten kind of leggy; maybe that’s to be expected when we start them indoors. And if you look closely up the upper right, you’ll see one of several patches of snow that haven’t melted yet, so it’s still a little cool out. But we have a leg up on last year’s efforts: Last year at this time we had just moved in, and didn’t have the faintest beginnings of a garden. We’re starting out this year with a shoop, five raised beds, a 7′ perimeter fence, hoops & fabric, irrigation, and manure; and compost and a greenhouse are in the offing.

I have a request. If you enjoy reading my blog, will you please pass it on? And let me know too. I’d like to see more followers, to know what you like reading and what not so much, what’s helpful, etc.

  1. Oh I wish I could have a garden right now I have celery starts for the planters but that is the extent of my veggie garden. I think I might plant strawberries this year around my tree. I cant wait till I am not renting anymore. Its been fun reading your blog.
