Down at the creek

I was out Thursday and Friday, so no blog posts. I’ve been at this company for over a decade and now get so much vacation time I can’t always remember to forewarn y’all when I’ll be out. Five weeks of vacation a year plus paid holidays, insurance, flexible spending, etc etc–let’s hear it for college and a salaried job!*

I slept in until 6 on Saturday and awoke to one of my favorites: fog! It makes for beautiful photography. I pulled on my clothes, tiptoed downstairs and awoke Katie, age 9: “Get dressed and let’s go for a walk!”

I brought my camera of course, and took a few shots, but we’ll see if anything develops (pun intended). The dogs were everywhere, the fog was lifting, and Katie said, “Can we go down and see the creek?” So down we clambered amidst budding branches and slippery logs. That’s where this photo was taken, with the camera on timer and nestled into a snowbank. The creek is roaring and frothing with spring runoff, but it’ll be gone come summer.

We emerged from the canyon, went back home to a hot breakfast, and had such a great day from there that it forms the basis of most of this week’s posts.

Isn’t she a beautiful girl?

* for now.
